Police constable exam is being conducted individually for each state and Union Territory of India. The candidates who all apply for this post need to study for the exam well. There is a well- defined selection criteria for the exam. For different states, the criteria vary  from each state organization to another.

The basic selection mediums include- Physical Standard Test (PST), Written Exam, Physical measurement test (PMT), Interview or Personality test. But, it may be lesser or more as decided by SSC organization. The candidates need to be expert in all fields to get selected as constable in police department.
