IRDA Assistant Manager Syllabus Exam Pattern 2019 Full Selection Criteria

The notification for Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI) Assistant Manager into several specialized posts has already been declared and the candidates can start their preparations for exam from the details given below.

  1. Phase I- Preliminary Exam
  2. Phase II- Mains Exam
  3. Interview

Phase I

Subjects Included Reasoning, General Awareness, English, Quantitative Aptitude


  1. In each section, the candidate has to qualify separately as per the cut off decided by IRDAI.
  2. The question paper will be set bilingually except for English language.
  3. There will be negative marking in exam which is 1/4th marks are deducted for each wrong answer.

Economic & Social Issues impacting insurance: Economic growth, business cycles, age structure, application of utility theory, financial markets, financial institutions, macroeconomic factors, premium setting, insurance markets, economic capital, systemic & concentration risk, economic capital, risk based capital requirements, contribution of insurance sector, insurance investments, economic reforms, insurance regulation, motor business, functions of IRDAI, role of actuary, de- tariffing in India, motor business, changing Insurance regulations, FSLRC, social structure in India, Insurance in rural & social sectors, indian micro insurance experience, social security laws, implementation there of, RSBY- Health Insurance Scheme for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families

Insurance: History, Principles, Risk & uncertainty, pooling & diversification, indemnity & insurable interest, legal foundations of insurance, basics in group/ health/ insurance/ pensions, intermediation, role in mobilizing savings, evolution of various types, bancassurance in India, function performed by insurers, insurance lines & products, GIC of India, obligator sessions, retention of risk

Management: Nature & scope, management processes (planning, leadership, staffing, directing, controlling), leadership (tasks, theories, types), human resource development (meaning, concept, goals, career planning), performance appraisal (feedback & performance counselling, rewards, employee welfare), motivation, morale, incentives, communication channels, oral/ written communication, barriers to communication, role of IT, corporate Goverance

Interview: The candidates who all clear the descriptive paper will be eligible for this round of selection and the candidates will be asked some general & post related questions.

Merit List: it will be prepared based on written exam (phase II) + interview.
